9/3/1967 with Dead at Rio Nido Ballroom

From Grateful Dead and Brian Rohan

Just the Grateful Dead and Mount Rushmore.

After our set Pig Pen came up to me and said “You really sock it to ‘em!”. It felt like high praise from one who knows whereof he speaks.

The next day was bright and sunny. We went swimming in the river. I took LSD.  I don’t think any of the others did. It was Labor Day and there were a lot of families wading in the shallows. In my stonedness I must have wandered into the space of a family with a little girl and a very protective father. The next thing I remember is being taken to the local jail in the back of a squad car. As they did in the Charlatans incident two months earlier, a lawyer from Brian Rohan’s office got me out before I had to spend even one night in jail.

Somebody taped the Dead’s set
