From Elementary teaching 

The beginning of my career as a full-time elementary school teacher with my own class was very rough, due to a perfect storm of conditions.

• In the District Intern program I was in you have full responsibility for teaching when you have had virtually no training

• Due to year-round school track scheduling, my first 2 months of teaching were BEFORE my first DI class, which was classroom management

• My first day of teaching was the first day after bilingual education was outlawed in California. All the beautiful new textbooks in my classroom were in Spanish. It took weeks to get the new English language textbooks.

No training. No materials. No classroom management strategies.
