7/16/2013 Daily Log – unpacking attachment

From Unpacking my attachment to the myth of dharma transmission  and Daily Log

One reflection on reading Franz Metcalf’s interview transcripts: [A big contribution to unpacking my attachment to the myth of dharma transmission]

A mix of healthy and unhealthy ingredients leading to some frustration:

A sense that I can succeed at whatever I choose

An over active mind

Reading about the (mythologized archetypal) role of the wise zen master in DT Suzuki and Alan Watts

Buying into the myth of dharma transmission from India to China to Japan to America

A need to be special, have power over others

Spiritual materialism

Now I can see that I confused the awakening of bodhicitta (the way seeking mind) with a sense of calling, as in being called to a religious vocation.

I experienced both, but mixed them up.

I still have the way seeking mind, but I’m finally unhooking from the blind attachment to the teacher role, with all the questionable components that included for me.
