The Period Log is how you “position yourself in the present” at the beginning of a Journal Workshop or beginning a new phase of life journaling at home alone. It consists of brief statements of “Where I am now in my life” and “The Now Moment”, and filling out an extensive Journal Checklist.
Here’s a list of the 17 Period Logs I did from 1978 to 2010, an average of one about every other year for 32 years. So far I have transcribed these into this site from my handwritten Journal.
This is the Journal Checklist that you use to situate yourself in the period you’re writing about.
1. Persons – Important and meaningful relationships.
2. Work activities/outer projects.
3. Body – Physical condition.
4. Society – Beliefs, groups, connections, alignments.
5. Events – Significant, striking, strange.
6. Dreams – Significant, striking, repeating, images half awake.
7. Who inspires you? – Helping you in this period (may be from the past).
8. Decisions- Intersections coming, decisions already made.
9. Meaning – A connection (or disconnection) with sense of meaning in life.
After generating the Period Log you use Twilight Imagery exercises to generate the Period Image and Life Correlation, adding a Depth Dimension to the Period Log.
